About Me
I am Abhijeet Maharana from Orissa, India; currently staying at Hanover, New Hampshire, USA. I hold a bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering and am currently working towards the Master of Engineering Management degree at Thayer School of Engineering, Dartmouth College. My interest in computers dates back to the time when I was in 5th std.. “Computer” was not a household name back then. But luckily, we had a computer period in school which consisted of Space Commanders and Paratroopers. I absolutely loved the fabulous games and the one with highest scores used to become a celebrity for a day. These games caught my imagination and I was hooked. I am still an avid gamer; although now I play select titles at the “I can win” mode. In 6th std., I moved to Sainik school, Bhubaneshwar where we had computers from 8th std.. I found it difficult to subscribe to the idea and approached the computer teacher who agreed to allow me into his lab on the condition that I won’t touch anything. That was more than I could have asked for. Although I cannot say for sure, I think we had BBC Micro computers there with the BASIC programming language. I shifted to Mumbai in 7th std..
My daily efforts are directed at understanding more of this vast subject and I continue discovering new things every day. I have worked on .NET 2.0, SQL Server 2005, Oracle 8i and MySQL 5.x. I also had a chance to dabble with GWBasic and DBase III+ in school. In my free time, I like tinkering with C, Java, Linux and conducting workshops on OpenGL, Java, Linux and other technical topics. Of late, I have developed a fascination for other fields that make the world what it is and affect the way it operates; most notably finance and political history. When you combine engineering and non-engineering perspectives on things, the result can be quite interesting! My current program at Dartmouth gives me an opportunity to explore these areas and meet interesting people from various backgrounds. It has added another dimension to the way I perceive people and things. It has also added another activity that I would like to engage in, in the long term – travel.
My interests, apart from computers, keep changing. Sometimes its sports. Sometimes movies. I use this blog to make note of the things I discover. Here you will also find information on the projects I have worked on and the workshops & seminars I have conducted so far.
I would love to hear from you:
